I know the posting trend has been once every like 10 years over the past little while but i have exciting news that i wanted to blog! I did my first run today!! It was inside a crazy long session (..5 hours..will explain later) but i got to run 6x2 mins with 1 min walk in between! not much but exciting just the same! and i also learned how much i must love my sport because i couldnt wipe the smile of my face the whole time and was even feeling slightly choked up! hahahah lame i know, Joel already told me I am a dork! haha but hey i am a Sweetland..it runs in the family ;)...i think it was excitement mixed with a little frustration that i would be healthy in time for Beijing...anyway...that was my good news! the CT scan came back and it's not completely healed (which they had expected) but it's well on its way and i got the green light to start introducing some running! :)
As for the crazy long session..first let me say we had a tough swim in the morning...fast 50's and hard 400's ... then i started riding about 12:45..met up with lauren and rode out to the waddling dog loop (total: 1 hr) then did motor pacing for 4 times 1 loop (total: 2hrs), run off the bike (total:2:20) then rode up to commonwealth pool (total: 2:45 hrs) then did a hard elliptical (total: 3:20 hrs) and rode home along the water front (total; 4:05 hrs) ... then rode straight into the food court in cook street village! when al1 was said and done (minus food court) it took just over 5 hours! Now i am tired and off to bed! Coach hinted at a tough swim tomorrow...uh oh!

Great news that you're back to running (even if it's not 100%). I know the feeling of getting out there to do something you've been missing for a while... it must've felt great.
Sounds like the rest of your training is back up to where it used to be. The rest of the athletes on the circuit better watch out, cause I think you're going to feel you have something to prove when you get back into a race (just don't go out too hard and bonk!)
btw... you said the other day that you did an easy 4k swim... what kind of time would you do that in? That's an Ironman swim...
ETT
i knew you would be back for this season at some point...i bet you'll be stronger than ever!
remember be good to yourself!
How's the running coming? When do you think you'll be able to get back out and compete?
While i'd love to see you compete in Beijing, closer to home the Subaru Series will be in Sooke in Sept... might be a good opportunity to jump back in on a more local scale?!?!?
the running is great thanks! slowly working up! Yea I have some plans for september that include racing in france!! but if i am home it would be fun to jump into a local race!
So Kirsten... any tips for a 1st time triathlete? I'm doing the "My First Triathlon" sprint race at Harrison Mills on the mainland Aug 10?
I expect I'll be one of the stronger swimmers and do well on the bike, but the run is my weakness. Should I go conservative and save lots for the run, or go for it and try and 'hold on'??
Any advice you can give would be great... I'm so psyched - I see why you love this sport!
I've been blogging my experience at:

I know it's not going to be quite what you were hoping, but make sure you enjoy your Olympic experience (I'm sure you will). Lauren, Kathy and Carolyn (and the guys too) will have a great supporter.
At least you won't be as awe struck 4 years from now and it will be a bit easier to just focus on the competition (cause we all know you will be there!)
Enjoy Beijing, and can't wait to hear of future race results from you!
