Chamois Time!

I know this is the way I've been starting a lot of my posts but....apologies for the lack of posting! I'm getting into a new rythem, routines, weather, training style, training mates, room mate and friends! It's pretty great! I'm adjusting slowly to the training and heat/humidity. I have had some good sessions and i've been pretty tired at times but the main thing is I'm getting the time in! and there is a lot of time to put in coming up! Between today (monday) and thursday, I will ride 12 hours! That is more chamois time than i am used to but i am looking forward to it! But apparently that is just the beginning! We leave for endurance camp this saturday where we will log more hours...6 hour rides will be a regular according to the rest of the squad! It is more volume than what i'm used to but with all new people and routes the rides go by pretty fast! the bakery stops don't make it any more difficult either ;)

Yesterday's ride was pretty funny! We did the big sunday group ride called Zupps. It is with all the cyclists and triathletes in town. This week was the biggest group i had experienced to date...and of course it was on the day when i was feeling the worst! aand to add to that...my favourite ppl (can you feel the sarcasm??) josh, adam and sweeny started the fast part way waaay early. I was sending them bonk vibes very strongly but it backfired and Emma and i found ourselves dropped and alone into the headwind...well..i found myself clinging to Emmas wheel into the headwind ;) after the effort everyone meets up at a "petrol station" (never say gas unless you want a good 5 minutes worth of aussies attempting american accents). It took Emma and I so long to get there that her boyfriend, Dane called us to see where we were and we lied and said we had a flat! hahaha we very well could have had 4 flats and arrived quicker than we did! I had just come out of the shop with my ice cream when the group decided it was time to roll out...perfect..i literally inhaled my bubble o bill or whatever its called...i dont even remember what it tasted like...well thats not true.. it tasted like my ticket home! with my energy levels topped up and few squad members, i rode home..changed into my swimmers, grabbed my floaty chair and headed downstairs to the pool! but one very important step is missing here...the application of sunscreen! sometimes i forget that im not in canada anymore! after laying 1/2 asleep on my floaty for 90 minutes i was looking frighteningly similar to a lobster. After that i fed my massive 3 week old mcdonalds craving (and it was very disappointing) and went out for coffee and shopping with Emma. I bought myself a light long sleeved shirt to hide my burn for the BBQ we were headed to. It must not have been enough because all i heard all night was "kirsten, you are so sunburned!" ..."oh really?..i hadn't noticed that i am bright red and feel like i am on fire! thank you for pointing that out!" the good news is i woke up this morning looking more brown than red! a few percent more likely to get skin cancer though so i am going to try and limit these occurrences! Today is the first day of summer so i will have plenty of opportunities to practice my sunscreen application skills coming up!

We head to camp on a beach between the gold coast and byron bay in a few days so i will be sure to take pictures and update while i'm there! until then!

Oh Byron Bay. I love that town. I lived there for quite awhile when I was in Australia while working at the Hog's Breath Cafe! I would love to see some Aussie pics to bring back some of my memories!

Ah, summer. I remember that. Nothing like the 4:30pm darkness we have here right now. I know you're jealous!
