White Christmas!

I don't consider myself to be a very good liar at all...ok lets be honest here...I am a terrible liar! Buut..when it comes to writing lies..i seem to be quite good! My apologies for the load of crap at the end of my last post! (the part about christmas in australia...i guess the part about posting more often was a load of crap as well but i didn't mean to lie on that one!) Anyway...I decided a few weeks ago to book a surprise trip home for Christmas! Most flights were booked up so the only day i could get was Christmas eve. I was supposed to arrive in Van at 12:30 but after a late start, an hour of circling over vancouver waiting for the runway to be cleared, an hour long tax to our gate behind a snow plow and another 90mins waiting for the tunnel thingie to be dug out and defrosted, I finally arrived in Vancouver at 3:45! I can't really complain though because all other flights in and out of vancouver were cancelled so i am actually VERY lucky! I caught the 5:00 ferry (which was the longest ferry ride of my life by the way) then I caught a cab to a side street beside my house and trumped through the neighbour's yard in knee deep snow with my 2 suitcases. In my nervous/excited/shaky state, i accidentally knocked over the garbage bin which made quite a noise but luckily they never heard it. I rang the door bell and my mom came to the door and had the expected reaction...screaming followed by extreme suffocation. My dad came down the stairs and said he knew (he soo didn't!) and my sister was there to give me a big hug. It was 7:30 by then and we had all evening to eat/drink and catch up..and that is exactly what i did! I think i had 5 drinks (which for me is way more than enough)

and enough food to make up for the 30 some odd hours with only crap airplane/airport food! Christmas morning was really nice as well.
It was so special for us to have a white Christmas! We made our usual Christmas brunch

then my dad, my sister and i went sledding!

That evening we had my Aunt, Uncle, and cousin over for dinner. My mom cooked her best Christmas dinner yet! She also did tons of Christmas baking! I also insisted that we make gingerbread houses on boxing day...it isn't Christmas without making a gingerbread house!

After a few gluttonous days I was ready to get back into some sort of training. I eased into it quite nicely :) and now i am back into the swing of things. It is hard to manage the training commitments with the social calendar but i am managing alright. Today was crazy though!

I started at 8:30 at my chiropractors office only to find out it was switched to 3:00 so i headed to the pool for the next task (with a slight detour to starbucks). Next was a 2hr trainer ride with some efforts and big gear. Then it was up to the gym for some short intervals on the tready. 45 mins total and we had less than one hour until swimming. Shower..then over to Sharpie's where his mom was nice enough to feed us pancakes, waffles and Christmas treats! Back to the pool for round 3...5k swim with 200 efforts drafting in pairs. I was paired with a junior girl, Christine Ridenour and we rocked it :) By then it was 3:00...time for chiro! I rushed over to Mike's where he met me for the 2nd time this week on his time off to treat me for upwards of an hour! (what a guy eh?!)

By 4:30 I was finally home and ready for an early dinner..nothing like a home cooked pot of chili on a snowy day! Now I am just relaxing by the fire with the fam...baileys has become to much of a routine for me lately!!

I am not going to promise more posts this time because i never seem to follow through but i will try my best! I will be back in Brisbane in less than a week and back into the usual training routine! No more of this indoor crap! :) I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays! Have a happy New Years and I will catch up with you in 2009! (cheesy i know..i get it from my dad.. :P)

That's awesome that you were able to surprise the family! Nothing like sneaking 15 hours of travel into Christmas day!

So glad you were able to come back and share in our joy of spinning on the trainer, and running on the tready, but now you get to go back to the true joy of training outside.

All the best for the New Year! Can't wait to see race results....
